The essence of

Teacher’s Day

WE celebrate Teacher’s Day every 5th of

September (Dr S Radhakrishnan’s

birthday). But hardly any school passes on

the message to their students about the

reason. I don’t know whether the following

practice is still carried out or not, but

usually in many school, senior students

used to take over charge as school teachers

and teach the students for the day. The act

symbolised that they had received a good

education and were capable of enlightening

other pupils.

Unfortunately, recently we have come

across several cases reported in the media

of some teacher misbehaving with a female

student, or students misbehaving with a

professor.

They cast a slur on the profession.

Furthermore, the teachers in our schools

and colleges must receive proper

acknowledgement and should be better

rewarded in monetary terms.
