Flying of kites that precede the occasion

Flying of kites that precede the occasion
‘Makar Sankranti’ is an joyous
occasion for people. The festival
gives a lot of joy to many and people
regardless of their religion participate
in the merriment. It is also an occasion
for youngsters to show their
prowess and cut each others kites.
Those who cut many kites are
crowned the ‘kite king’, this creates healthy and innocent
competition among young people. But unfortunately
the events have taken an ugly turn. Due to the
reckless competition youngsters try to use stronger
and sharper thread (manja) to fly the kites. It has been
observed that types of threads are processed with
small pieces of waste glass to make it sharp. The
glass-finished threads become dangerous for others
as well as those who use it. It can cut the wings of
birds and also cut user’s fingers too. It may take the
lives of human beings and birds. I suggest that people
use weak white thread that is normally use to
stitch the bedsheets and quilts.
We must also stay away from the Chinese thread,
as it’s dangerous if it comes in contact with overhead
current cable wires. The kite and manja sellers must
voluntarily keep a signboard at their shop informing
people about the consequences of the strong thread.
